Ten Hollywood Celebrities I Want to Meet

I like a good movie as much as the next guy. In fact, I’ve been known to enjoy famously bad movies, including Howard the Duck and the Hercules flick starring Lou Ferrigno. Sitting in theaters mindlessly munching popcorn and sipping Coca-Cola as an action picture or drama unfolds before my eyes, certain actors and actresses eventually stand out for their charisma, grace, or beauty.
This is not a best actor and actress list. While some of these folks are Hollywood greats, all are not necessarily A-list performers. Other Hollywood stars might be wealthier, more attractive and more famous. This group comprises a list of stars I find intriguing and would enjoy meeting. They are mentioned here in random order, evinced by the probability that I would rather meet Jessica Alba than Richard Gere—no offense intended to Gere.

Let's do lunch
Dustin Hoffman: The star of scores of films including All the President’s Men, Kramer vs. Kramer, Tootsie, Rain Man and the Graduate, I first noticed Dustin Hoffman in a small feature entitled Straw Dogs. He played a mild-mannered husband terrorized by a group of workers and thugs, and mustered an unsuspected ferocity in fending off his attackers with deadly finality. My favorite Hoffman performance, however, was as the tragic Ratso Rizzo in Midnight Cowboy. Why I’d like to meet him: He seems thoughtful and doesn’t display a lot of ego, a Hollywood rarity.
Kate Winslet: This beautiful actress first came to my attention as Rose Dawson in Titanic. Winslet walks an unusual path in Hollywood, starring in thought-provoking films such as Little Children, the Reader, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Revolutionary Road. She projects charm and sophistication in even the most unsophisticated of roles, and I will watch almost anything she stars in. I enjoyed her work as the repressed housewife in Little Children, but Kate Winslet will always be remembered for Titanic. Why I’d like to meet her: She is a soft-spoken, intelligent and classy lady.
Will Smith: Busting out in the television series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Smith quickly moved on to blockbuster movies like Men in Black, Independence Day, I Am Legend, Ali and many more. There is seemingly no role Smith can’t excel in. He conveys a natural charm and wit on-screen, no matter what character he’s playing. Why I’d like to meet him: He’s a successful television and movie star, a rapper, and he’s married to Jada Pinkett-Smith. He comes across as one of the most likable guys in Hollywood.
Valerie Bertinelli: I have been in love with Valerie Bertinelli ever since her role in the 70s series, One Day at a Time. Bertinelli is cute and beautiful and funny and charming and I just love her. Gaining national fame as a Jenny Craig spokesperson after years of obscurity, she is much admired for publicly challenging herself to lose 40 pounds. She looks terrific, and I was in love with her even before she lost the weight. Why I’d like to meet her: I admire her for accepting a public challenge to lose weight, and then following through with it.
Jack Nicholson: The star of too many films to mention. If you don’t know what Nicholson has done, well—where have you been? He’s delivered some of Hollywood’s most famous lines, including “Heeeeeeere’s Johnny” from the Shining and “You can’t handle the truth!” from A Few Good Men. He also offered a surprisingly sensitive portrayal of Shirley MacLaine’s friend and lover in Terms of Endearment. Oh, yeah…he played the Joker in Batman and has been a fixture for decades at Lakers games. Why I’d like to meet him: Few people seem to enjoy life as much as Jack.
Miley Cyrus: Star of the Disney television series Hannah Montana and their feature film, Hannah Montana: the Movie. Cut me some slack on this choice, okay? I know she is a teen idol and many consider her lacking both as a singer and actress, but she has a presence about her that I like. She has a good sense of comedy (even if it is currently geared toward teens) and just seems like fun. If I was a teenager, I would be in love. Why I’d like to meet her: She’s cute, she’s funny, her Dad is funny and she has a secret identity.
Arnold Schwarzenegger: He played a robot from the future in the Terminator movies and a barbarian in the Conan flicks. In between he starred in Commando, Red Heat, the Running Man, Total Recall, Twins and Kindergarten Cop. He was also Mr. Freeze in Batman and Robin. Schwarzenegger was also a seven-time Mr. Olympia and currently serves as the Governor of California. Why I’d like to meet him: Bodybuilder, actor, and politician—how can you not want to meet a guy with a resume like that?
Gillian Anderson: A fantasy-figure for SF geeks everywhere, Gillian Anderson is most famous for her role as Dana Scully on the hit television series, The X-Files. Anderson is beautiful in an off-beat way, and her intellectual portrayal of Scully on the X-Files won the hearts of Science Fiction fandom. Her credits include work in The Turning and The House of Mirth and an abundance of theatrical work, but to most Americans she is Special Agent Dana Scully, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Why I’d like to meet her: The Science Fiction geek still lurks within me.
Richard Gere: His best movies always seem to be films in which he dresses well, such as American Gigolo, An Officer and a Gentleman, and Pretty Woman. A personal favorite was Primal Fear, which stars Gere as a lawyer convinced his client is suffering from a multiple personality disorder. The ending is truly surprising, and Gere was memorable in his role. Why I’d like to meet him: He’s a former husband to Cindy Crawford, a practicing Budhhist and campaigns for ecological causes. As far as Hollywood goes, this guy is pretty deep.
Jessica Alba: The only actress to make my list just because of her beauty. She first appeared in the short-lived television series Dark Angel. She is not the best actress around, but this lady is stunning. Her credits are fairly lightweight with roles in Sin City, the Fantastic Four movies and Into the Blue, but this dazzling woman is sufficiently beautiful to capture my attention, regardless of what she is acting in. Why I’d like to meet her: She’s flat-out gorgeous. Did I already mention that?
Well, there you have it, my friends—ten Hollywood stars I’d like to meet. In fact, I have a great idea: maybe one or two of ‘em could swing by and pick me up for dinner sometime next week. If they want to pay for the meal, I’ll get the tip.
How could they refuse an offer like that?

Wow, I'm not sure how many I watch in a month any more. I used to go to the theater all the time, but my movie-going companions aren't around any more, so now I mostly settle for rentals or cable. Except for sports, I watch very little mainstream television, so whenever the TV is on, it's usually on a cable channel.
The result, of course, is that I "passively" watch movies sometimes while I'm doing other things, but since I live alone, the TV is usually on--a long-winded way of saying "I'm not sure, but quite a bit" in answer to your question.
I'll give your question a little more thought...

I am a bit lost here-kind of like basketball hubs but different! he he he. I have no interest in t.v. or stars and no desire to meet any of them-possibly because I have met enough to know they are just like us-with bigger money and problems. I was shocked by this hub though!!Usually I find great commonality between us! This was a big eyeopener--this is completely opposite!:) I was thinking about people wanting to only meet someone because they were handsome or attractive-which leaves me baffled--thinking if I have ever wanted to meet someone for something such as this? Nope. As for Arnold Shwartzenhager...okay..I will shut up he hehehe.
Ghosty, how are ya today?? A shocker, huh? Well, I wanted to write something a little lighter in tone, and this is what came out. I gotta admit, I leave the TV on a lot and have the cable channels going, so eventually I start to feel I know these folks anyway, so it doesn't feel like I want to meet them for strictly superficial reasons. Would I like any of 'em if I really met them? Well, that's a different story altogether. I dunno.
I do think they should spring for lunch after I've said all these nice things about them, don't you?

Shaz, thanks for your comments. Brad and Angelina both? Hmmm (lol). Angelina Jolie could have made my list, I must admit. I was on Cloud Nine once when someone told me (long ago) that I looked like Brad Pitt. My bubble burst when someone else told me I looked like David Carradine. To get off the roller-coaster my self-esteem was on with these conflicting "compliments", I was forced to conclude that I don't look like either one of them.

Habee, thanks for reading. When I was a kid and Sean Connery was playing James Bond, I wanted to BE Sean Connery. Or, maybe I wanted to be James Bond.... I suspect that if the X-Men movies came out when I was a kid, I would want to be Hugh Jackman or Wolverine. Yeah, definitely Wolverine. The claws would be cool.

I'd have to say Bruce Willis, Arnold (I have it from a good source they are both a blast to hang out with), Johnny Depp, Angelina, Jessie Ventura,Lance Henriksen, Bruce Campbell, Hugh Jackman, Jessica Alba too (because I have talked to her on Twitter and she's cool)and Jeff Bridges..."The Dude"!

Mike, funny, I never really thought about movie stars I'd like to meet. I had a day job once as 'background' in a crowd scene for a John Waters movie. We were all told not to even think about approaching the celebs. I felt like I shouldn't even look them in the eye. They were all rather tiny little people.
Fun hub. I'm in the process of doing one, but geared more toward movies of noir.

Dolores, thanks for reading. They've filmed a movie or two in my home town, but I've never met anyone famous during filming. Actually, I did meet the comedian Rita Rudner one time, and she was quite gracious. It would be interesting to see how accurate our perceptions of actors and actresses are.

I'm a 'Howard the Duck' fan from way back, and my favorite movie of all-time is and always will be 'Joe Versus the Volcano,' minus the shark-growling scene, of course.

Mike, this was a lighter touch for you and made me think about the day I ran into Jackie Gleason, the comic funny man many years ago. He was pleasant but not so funny off stage. I did love his humor however.
Susan, thanks for reading. You're right, I felt the need to lighten up a little bit after a run of sports hubs, followed by a run describing the unusual and unexplained. Your comments about Jackie Gleason are interesting. I found him a brilliant entertainer, but I suspect he was a pretty intense fellow and perhaps wasn't quite the same bundle of laughs off-stage. I suspect he is not alone in that regard either.
It still is fun to imagine being in a room with these folks though, even if we might be disappointed if it ever really happened.

I've always thought that Kevin Kline, Kevin Spacey, Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson would be cool to meet.
I have had a couple of my own brushes with the famous (very brief and not very interesting) and it was strange and awkward everytime. For me, I think it was hard to unwrap my mind from the larger than life images they were famous for, into people having normal conversation.

Great list! Jack Nicholson would definitely top mine. However, Miley Cyrus gets on my nerves. When she talks, it sounds like she's chewing her own face.

Nice list...I'm in agreement on Kate Winslet and Will Smith. I'm not opposed to any of the others, they just wouldn't make my top 10 list. A few that I'd add are John Travolta, Judd Law, and John Cusack.

Strangely enough I've always wanted to meet Robert Downey Jr. I find myself wondering whether he's as egotistical as he presents himself or if it's just a facade. He seems like a funny and interesting guy to talk to.

A great selection Mike. The actor from your choice who I would chose would most definitely be Jack..I could and enjoy his humor, wit and a cold brew or two of his favorite. I hope it's Jack Daniels. My female choice from the ones you posted would have to go to Jessica Alba simply for her beauty. I would simply sit and adore her and wish I was 21 again, after all I'm old enough to be her father:0)
My own number one choice would be Robert De Nero..he is my hero and second if he were still alive would have to be the Duke John Wayne, it's the cowboy in me what can I say. Third choice would be Al Pacino, he is the Godfather after all, one must show respect to the Don.

I was a fan of Racquel Welch, also. It was hard to find a better poster than Racquel in the "cavegirl" outfit. She still looks remarkably young for her age, too--she must be doing something right.
